The African masks are generally carved in wood, but one adds feathers, skins to it, shells (famous the cauris) of the leather of bright colors they are often decorated geometrical drawings their forms evoke animal or human features coarsely.
The women can neither carry nor to even touch the masks, which are reserved to the initiated men. In the crowned enclosure, the old ones raise the use of the masks to them, which they will inherit the frightening powers. Indeed, according to the tradition, the carrier of a mask, becomes the divinity whom it represents: it acquires its qualities and its defects, and it is able to achieve wonders.
